Here at Derby House, we care deeply about the planet and the effect our company has on the environment. To reduce our impact, we have ensured that all our packaging is either plastic-free, biodegradable or widely recyclable. This has eliminated over 14 tonnes of single-use plastic annually. Whilst this is just a small step towards a more sustainable future, we see any plastic diverted from landfill as a big success.
About our sustainable packaging
We are as serious about sustainability as we are about providing the best equestrian products. The packaging we used in 2021 was 99.72% plastic free, made from 96.72% recycled content and 93.22% FSC Certified. Our void fill is 100% recycled paper, and the gum tape we use (made from natural materials) means that most of our packaging is completely recyclable and biodegradable! Some products we sell do require a bit more protection though. In these cases, we may use plastic bubble wrap or a plastic polybag to ensure your product arrives to your home or stable safely.
We also limit the quantity and types of less sustainable packaging our brands send to us. Often, products are sent to us in plastic polybags, which are notoriously difficult for customers to recycle. Rest assured though, we are working hard to tackle this problem and have introduced schemes with certain brands to remove the polybag and recycle it for you. We are proud to say that our 2021 recycling rates were as high as 84.92%.
We invested in state-of-the-art machinery to ensure our packaging is not only sustainable but efficient. Our cutting-edge packing machine ensures the correct sized packages for our products, which has in turn reduced the need for a further 90 lorry loads of deliveries every year. Not bad if we do say so ourselves!
Furthering the lifespan of your packaging.
Your doorstep doesn’t have to be the end of your packaging’s journey. Make sure to open your parcels with care, as you can reuse the packaging if you need to return an item. You can extend its life further by reusing or recycling. Most of our packaging is also biodegradable if you cannot recycle it.
